Dear JustUs,
My boyfriend of 11 months and I are very happy. We get along just fine. Whenever we have an argument, we both discuss our feelings and how we felt we were wronged. I love that he apologizes without hesitation even at times when he was totally innocent. I practice doing the same too, to keep the peace.
Recently an old high school girl-friend came to town and wanted to go for drinks. When I told my boyfriend about us hanging out, he wasn't so comfortable with it, but told me to have a good time and call him later. I did.
When he asked me how the night went, I shared all the various things we talked about and how we ended up not paying for a single drink. He became jealous and upset that I would allow other men to buy me a drink. I didn't (still don't) see anything wrong with anyone buying me a drink. It's not like I gave out my number or plan to see them again. I was very upfront about me being in a committed relationship and in LOVE with my man. But he says that's disrespecting him. JustUs, in NO way did I ever feel or thought that I was disrespecting him. My girl-friend and I would be sitting and talking and the waitress would bring a double of what we were drinking saying it was from a guy. We'd cheers! and then go back to talking. Of course the men would make their way over but I stayed honest and true by letting them know up front I was thankful for the drink but I was taken.
Even though we have since made up, he has said he rather me not go out again unless with him.
I'm feeling that may be to the extreme. I love and trust him and I need for him to love and trust me also.
Do you think what I did deserves this type of repercussion?
